FIRE!!!!! (x2)

If you could see me, even as I write this
Blog entry I am still shaking my head...
and grinning! Little boys..... What is the deal?!!
I guess my lack of brothers left me
at a disadvantage when it comes to
the opposite sex in adolescent form.
Here is the story..pictures to follow..

Last week I was in the kitchen making
dinner when I got a whiff of something that
smelled like burning plastic. It was coming from
the general direction of the fireplace. I
headed into the family room to find nothing
out of the ordinary. I recalled at that point that
the fireplace vent goes directly to
the outside, where it just happens my boys
were playing. Playing they were not.....
When I got to the boys the conversation went
something like this:
Me- boys what are you doing?
Jaxon- We are kicking dirt on it!
Me- kicking dirt on what?
Jaden- On our campfire!
(at this point I had rounded the
Large propane tank hooked to the fireplace
to see my boys had not only started a small
fire right next to the tank, but had managed
to melt the sididng on my house!!)
Me-Holy *%$# (words I shouldn't blog!)
They sure were kicking dirt on it!
By this time, thank Heaven, the fire was out.
However, that was the least of my sons worries!!!!!!!
Over the next few minutes they had everything
but the use of oxygen taken away, and were really
lucky that thier mother knew better than to spank
them In my very aggitated state!!!!
(I would have killed them!)
I did however put the fear of God into them.......Or so I thought!
Before I start into part 2 of this story, I'm sure
you are all wondering a few things.....Like where did my
4 and 6 year old learn how to start a fire...... David....
any questions? Secondly, where did they get the means
to start a fire......a lighter graciously left behind by one of
the construction crews from down the street!....
Now Part Deux....
yesterday we had the most glorious weather. It was
pushing 70, not a cloud in the sky, the kids were outside
in shorts having a ball!!! it's about 3:30 and we are getting
ready to head to the movies. I was once again finishing up
dinner when it happened... (I think this is a sign I shouldn't
make dinner anymore!!) Here is the general gist of it.
chloe- mom I need a glass of water to take outside.
me- chloe, I told you no water outside today. i don't
want you throwing it on anyone!!
chloe- (goes back outside)
Chloe- (comes running back in the house and asks
for a BIG cup of water)
Me- NO!! I already told you No once!!!
Chloe- (goes back outside)
Chloe -comes back inside and says "Mom, Jaden
started another fire"....
Me-WHAT?
By the time I got outside The fire was in full force
and headed, once again, to the propane tank!!
Fire conditions right now are RED! meaning
everything is really dry or dead and we had
a really strong wind blowing yesterday!!
For me it was one of those fight or flight moments!
I was screaming for the kids to get out of the yard
and go get the neighbor, who is a fire fighter.
Long story short... I got the hose, put out the fire,
lost more house siding, some serious grass and
any patience I had left.
Apparently the fear of God escaped Jaden the first
time!! I guarantee it didn't the second time!!
After I finished with him, I sicked Mr. Ben
the neighbor and fire fighter on him. I don't know
what Ben told him, but he was really scared of fire when
he was done with him! Way to go Mr. Ben!!
Before you call Social Services on behalf of my children
and report me for supplying them with an endless aresenal
of fire starting equiptment, here is what I got out of
Jaden about how it went down (the second time).
He apparently found another lighter left behind
by some person dedicated to contracting
emphysema! Love smokers!
He wanted to make his own campfire like Jaxon's.
Ohhhhh. isn't that sweet... NO!
When I told David about his son's acts of pyrotechnics
his response was laughter followed by endless stories
of him sinjing his eyebrows off, blowing things up, etc! Great.
Apparently male adolescent stupidity is hereditary!!
Needless to say, we didn't go to the movie. Instead we
had a very serious family discussion about fire safety.
I ended the discussion with I Love you's, sent them
all to bed. Then I sat down, ate an entire key lime
yogurt pie and laughed!! Life is never dull at the DeCoursey's!!

Krisha,

Knowing David the way that I do, I expected nothing but the sort of answer that you reported from him. The real thing to remember is that nobody got hurt...not to mention they both now have a head start on being good boy scouts! If you want to hit me now, you know that it takes less than 2 hours to get here.

SO I read your blog post before I read your comment on my blog...totally not excited for some of the things that boys do, but I guess it will always make life exciting.

Krisha!!!!! I laughed, wanted to cry, laughed, chuck

I hope you noticed the previous comment was from my dear old husband. Loved the stories. So, I gather from your comments, this is a time I should be grateful for all girls. I do remember my brothers getting a rag that they soaked with gasoline, lit on fire and tried to put it down the sewer hole by our house. My dad was so mad telling them how they could have blown up our whole cul de sac. So I guess be grateful that they only damaged your house and not the whole neighborhood. :)

When I first found out that baby #2 was a girl I was a bit disappointed, but I can honestly say now I'm relieved! Although, these are Justin's girls so who knows what they'll be capable of. Seriously, I have not stopped laughing about this and I'm glad you were able to laugh about it too in the end... and eat an entire pie. That's probably how I would've handled it too!

Holy crap!! I would have been pooping my pants!!! I love your story and trying to imagine what it looked like and then I saw the pic., Uhhh...that was a pretty big fire for a little guy!! You will definitely have some good stories for them when they are old! Good luck! Maybe a fire extinquisher would be a good purchase! Not one but a few! Take care!

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, this is GREAT!!! It brings back SO SO SO many memories of myself and my wonderful brother Brooks. I just wanted to let you know that if you need any counseling on this topic that my mother is probably a pro. I am sure that we put her through hell. we were sure the house was coming down a few times, or the hay shed or Grandpa Nessens mountain or the wheat fields behind the house and so many other items that... who knew were so combustible. I guess you can be thankful that you dont burn your garbage and your children have full access to matches, gasoline and diesel fuel. Oh the joys of life as an adolescent male- good luck
